The buildings we live in can indeed influence crime levels.

The buildings we live in can indeed influence crime levels. Research suggests the residents of high-rise blocks are more likely to be victims of crime: ‘each additional floor in your building increases your risk of being robbed in the street or having your car stolen by 2.5 per cent – if your building has 12 storeys rather than two, your chance of being mugged rises by a quarter,’ writes economic journalist Tim Harford. The lesson seems to be that houses rather than high-rises are needed to create a safe urban environment, not something Le Corbusier would have been pleased to learn.
